WHAT IS SCIENCE?
Discussion about science, it is a simple term that encapsulates many fields of life. It is a simple study of both the living and non-living thing in our environment. This simple definition was the one that later branched into many fields of life. Some see science as the study of what happened in the environment and how it affects life. To some science is just a course of study that takes you to the adventure of what you see around you and study of life processes. Science is basically categorized into three categories, the physical sciences, chemical sciences, and the biological sciences. We will quickly write on each of this category but before then let us touch briefly the history of science.

- PHYSICAL SCIENCES:
Under this category, it deals with the physical component of life, it encompasses all aspect of life that is naturally physical and sometimes it is called the abstract field of sciences. It studies the underlying principles and factors that are responsible for how some physical occurrence happens, how some physical aspect of life relate to human and any other thing that has life relate. Under this category, we have the physics, mathematics, and others.
- CHEMICAL SCIENCES:
This is the type of sciences that have to deal with the study of matter, the composition of matter, the structure of matter, how matter behaves, properties of matter which can either be physical properties or chemical properties, the state of matter. And talking about matter really mean whatever that has a weight and that occupies a space per time and at a particular region. All human in existence is matter, the air, the sun, gasses etc. are all matters and this is what this field seek to study. Some example of courses related to this is the chemistry
- BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES:
Biological sciences here entail the study of all life. This is a field that is concerned with the study of life, how to function, how it reacts to some given elements, how it is controlled by the environment and many more. Here the perfect example of a subject is Biology which is the study of life.
BRANCHES OF SCIENCE:
There are various field and courses today that arose from the various branches of science, we will be writing on a few of them. and they are
- ECOLOGY:
This is a branch of science that seeks to understand and relate the organism and its environment. Ecology is simply the study of an organism and their environment which may include the factors in their environment, factors like rainfall, temperature, humidity etc. this started early as a mere observation of natural order and life, but today is a branch of science people seek to study a course under it. It is categorized under the biological sciences.
- ZOOLOGY:
This is an interesting branch of science, which deal with the study of animal, this probe into everything related to animal, characters, sustaining power, ability and some many other things regarding animal and their care.
- OCEANOGRAPHY:
This is applied a form of the physical science in relation to the biological sciences which deal with the study of marine, the marine body and the aquatic habitat in relation to the survival of the living creature in the aquatic habitat.
- METEOROLOGY:
This is a science field that deals with the study of the atmosphere and the thing that has to deal with atmosphere, the strata in the atmosphere the species, their survival and many other underlying factors.
- ASTRONOMY AND SPACE SCIENCE:
This is the field of science that deal with outer space, and life outer space. Some scientist always embarks on a journey outside the earth to the nearby body, like the moon, Mars and other planets to study nature and everything that lives in that planets.

BRIEF HISTORY OF SCIENCE
In the quest for knowledge, an improvement on status quo and how to survive some certain conditions. History of science is the study of the development of science over time. Science as a course of study started by a man in form of studying the weather, the time and seasons, why was he this so? It was because man has been curious about creation, a man which to be in charge of his environment if not totally decides what happens in the environment. The curiosity further stretches down to lighting, setting the fire, how to improve on their ways of using the stone to set the fire, with archaeological evidence, history has demonstrated man has never in any time satisfied with new knowledge and ideas. About 2500 BC, the archeological facts gotten show how man deploy the use of animal blood to paint the wall of the cave, carry out some artistic values and others. Development shoot down the coast on man quest to improve on the tools to use in course of his farming activities, invention of simple tools like hoes and cutlass, this never stop there, there is a hunger to improve on the seed quality, output and others, this is how development started and stretches to modern era development of sophisticated technologies and modern scientifical practices.
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
This is an interesting part of science as a field of study. It is an impossible phenomenon to discuss successfully without writing about technology. As we have rightly written earlier, science is the study of life and things that have a life. Why must we study this? To improve on the quality of things available for man and how to judiciously utilize it for their growth. The application of scientific knowledge is what we called technology. On a broader sense, technology can be defined as the careful application of scientifical findings, procedure, facts in a systematic order to achieve a device capable of solving a practical problem. In other words, the practical demonstration of theoretical fact to bring about a practical solution to practical problems. Over years technology which is a field under science has gained a wider acceptance insight of man and many are ready to undergo the training to bring about a purposeful change in the society. And the practical things we see all over the street of our society today was a deliberate effort of science in the cloth of technology to bring about the invention of these things we see.
