Time was when you have to go to a branch of a bank to save money in your account. When you want to take money from the account, you have to take along, a bulky mass of paper called cheque. Things are different these days, with the help of technological advancement. The use of money in our bank account goes beyond withdrawing them, we can also use the money in our account to pay bills, e.g., DSTV subscription fee, and to also buy airtime. Buying of airtime with the money in our bank account, started with purchase via ATM. Almost all banks however took a step further, and made it possible to buy airtime with our money, by simply dialling a USSD code. Almost, if not all banks have a dedicated USSD code you can use to purchase airtime, including Ecobank. In this article, I want to show you how to buy airtime from money in your Ecobank account, by simply using USSD code.
Before we delve into the technical stuffs, there is something worth noting. You can not just use any phone number to buy recharge card from your Ecobank account. First and foremost, you have to make sure you have registered your phone number with Ecobank. If you are not sure about that, just try to remember if you ever received credit or debit alert on your phone number. If you have never received a debit or credit alert on your phone number, it is likely that you have not registered it with Ecobank. You do not have to worry because you can still register your phone number. If you have however registered your number with Ecobank, it means you are good to go.
Ecobank was not so considerate when bringing up the USSD code feature. Ecobank allows you to only recharge a single phone no, by dialling the USSD code. You can only recharge the phone number you registered with them. To recharge your phone number, simply dial: *326*AMOUNT#. For example, when you dial *326*200#, your phone number will be credited with N200 airtime, while the N200 will be deducted from your Ecobank account. You can try this as many times as you like. If you however have problem doing this, I advise you to visit any Ecobank branch and lodge your complain.
