If you pass the Bar Examination, you are automatically called to Bar and would be given a certificate by the Council of Legal Education in Nigeria. For those asking, ‘how many years can one spend at the Nigerian Law School?’ Know that, training at the Nigerian Law School is usually one year, after which you write the Bar Examination.Even if you studied law abroad and choose into practice law as a profession in Nigeria, you would still be required to pass through the Nigerian Law School.
No Nigerian lawyer can be called-to-bar if he or she does not attend any of the Nigerian Law Schools and graduate from there.For aspiring law graduates who want to practice law in Nigeria, a Nigerian Law School is a graduate school that offers legal courses for lawyers in Nigeria.
After Nigeria got her independence in 1960, the Nigerian Law School was established in 1962 by the Federal Government of Nigeria with the sole aim of training aspiring legal practitioners in Nigeria from Nigerian universities and foreign lawyers on Nigerian law practice. The legal institution had since been providing practical legal training for all Nigerian Law Graduates. Before the establishment of the Nigerian Law School, those who studied law in Nigeria had to receive legal practical training in England before being called into the English Bar. This Institution trains students on legal ethics, civil & criminal law, corporate law and property law. There are six law schools in Nigeria and their locations are namely, Lagos Campus, Agbani, Enugu State,Bagauda, Kano State, Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, Yola, Adamawa State, Bwari near Abuja.

The tuition fees for an aspiring lawyer that studied law in Nigeria is about 250,000 naira while that for an aspiring lawyer that studied law abroad is about 650,000. In addition to these fees, an acceptance fee of 20,000 naira has to be paid.
