ABOUT JOINT ADMISSION MATRICULATION BOARD (JAMB)

JAMB is an educational body whose main concern is based on supervising matriculation or entrance examination conducted for potential undergraduate aiming to be enrolled in one of the numerous tertiary institutions in Nigeria. JAMB is been in existence over 20 years and has ever since been effective in the education system of the nation.

The functions of the Board as provided for under Section 5 of Decree 33 of 1989 are as follows:

  1.    The appointment of Examiners, Moderators, Invigilators, members of the Subject panels and committees and other persons with respect to Matriculation Examinations and any other matters incidental thereto or connected therewith.
  2.    Give admission to suitably qualified candidates into different tertiary institutions after they must have recognized the following: The collation of information also dissemination of information on all issues regarding admissions into Tertiary institutions or any other matter relevant to the discharge of the functions of the Board.
  3.    The vacancies available in each Tertiary institution.
  4.    The guidelines approved by each Tertiary institution by its proprietors Or other competent authorities.
  5.    The preference expressed or otherwise indicated by the candidates for certain Tertiary institutions and courses.
  6.    Such other matters as the Board may be directed by the Honourable Minister to consider or the Board itself may consider appropriate in the circumstances.
  7.    JAMB is also in general control of the matriculation examination for admissions into all Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Universities in Nigeria.
  8.    The carrying out of such other activities as are necessary or expedient for the full discharge of all or any of the functions conferred on it under or pursuant to this decree.

ABOUT WEST AFRICA EXAMINATION COUNCIL (WAEC)

WAEC is a body that oversees the senior secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) majorly in most West African states. The examination conducted by WAEC is so important that without their result there is no how one can be admitted to any tertiary school in the country. they conduct four different categories of examinations which includes:

  1.    International Examinations
  2.    National Examinations
  3.    Examinations conducted in collaboration with other examining bodies
  4.    Examinations conducted on behalf of other examining bodies.
