It is recommended that any prospective candidates that are eyeing to be admitted into Lautech should strive to have a JAMB score that is far above 180 because there is no way an institution will admit a candidate that has 180 in his/her Jamb score when there are thousands of candidates that scored 250.
GENERAL JAMB SYSTEM OF ADMISSION AND CUT OFF MARK
The Central Admission Processing System(CAPS) was introduced by JAMB as a platform for its prospective candidates for the purpose of processing an admission among the tertiary institutions, so as to enable a level plane ground for all candidates based on their performances and removed nepotism and some corrupt practices in admission process by a different institution.
Central Admission Processing System is being set as a yardstick and statutory mark for all admission processes, some highly competitive tertiary institutions like OAU, UI, UNN, UNIZIK, UNILAG and other federal universities have made 200 as their general Jamb cut off marks.
LAUTECH AS AN INSTITUTION:
LAUTECH, that is the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology is located in Ogbomoso, Oyo State as a tertiary institution. The institution has more than 3,000 workers which include contract staff and enrolls 25,000 students.
Historically, the then military Governor of Oyo State which is now separated into two states namely Oyo and Osun states, Adetunji Olurin in the year 1987 got a request for a State-owned university by the Governing Council of The Polytechnic in Ibadan. The creation of the University was recommended by a committee set up by the then military Governor of Oyo State in the year 1988. Nigeria’s Federal ministry government in the year 1990, 13th March welcomed the request of the state which made the Oyo State University of Technology on April 23, 1990, to be signed by colonel Oresanya after the edition was established.
Professor Olusegun Ladimeji Oke was the pioneer vice-chancellor of the University. In January 1991, the University’s first Chancellor was late Bashorun M. K. O Abiola. A total of four hundred and thirty-six students were offered admission in four faculties namely, environmental sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Pure, and Applied Sciences, and the Engineering and management sciences were the pioneer academic session in the year 1990, 19th October. In the year 1990, a college of Health Sciences was formed. LAUTECH was named the best state-owned university in Nigeria during the 2003/2004 academic session. Today, the University, as well as the College of Health, gives admission to closely 20,000 candidates. Oyo State which is where the University has as its main campus serves as the university’s administration site. It also serves as a place for five faculties and a school of postgraduates. The five faculties are medicine, pure and applied science, environmental sciences, agricultural sciences, and then engineering and technology.
The place for the College of Health Sciences is located in Osogbo which serves as the University’s second campus. Medical laboratory sciences, medicine and surgery, and nursing departments use the Osogbo campus as their campus.
WHY LAUTECH?
Questions and eyes have been raised to question and also to know the very reason why there is always a high level of applicants seeking admission in this noble institution despite unending and painstaking strikes that combat the school almost on yearly bases resulting in a poor academic calendar.
Actually, as a state university of technology, LAUTECH is well equipped with ultra-modern facilities that made learning easier and practical, school fee is affordable with the privilege to pay installments for students who cannot afford to pay once.
Also, a lot of privileges and opportunities are open for graduates of this university, and a lot we cannot list here.
Conclusion
It can be generalized that the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology is among the best universities in Nigeria, and because of that, they are trying to maintain their status quo which then implies that any prospective candidates that desired to be one of the students in that citadel of learning need to buckle up in his or her studies since the institution is highly competitive.
